Shopping in Panama

Panama
Laurie Cooper asked:

Panama is a shopper’s paradise. Luxury goods from all over the world, duty free cravings, and a whole lot more can be easily found and bought here. From jewelry to kitchenware, from handicrafts to electrical equipment, from native costumes to artifacts, you just name it and Panama has it. Try to go around the endless shopping malls and centers and you would definitely say shopping in Panama is one of the most wondrous experiences you will ever have.

For your signature clothes and designer accessories such as Anne Klein, Polo Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Levi’s, Chanel, Bulgari and many other designer clothing and accessories, the Multiplaza Pacific Mall is the place to be. Located near the city’s business district, the Multiplaza is an enclosed mall that serves as a home to all those designer boutiques with, of course, not-so-cheap prices. Okay, so you’re not into this kind of shopping, let’s try other malls.

Another mall that houses stores for your unique shopping in Panama experience is the Multicentro located near the Bella vista. You will find designer brands and signature clothing apparel here as well but at cheaper prices.

The Albrook Mall is located just beside the Albrook Regional Airport. Also an enclosed mall this is the haven for discount stores and bargain shopping. Albrook Mall was originally built to keep up with the bus terminal that it sits adjacent to. Because of the thousands of bus passengers that go through it every day, Albrook Mall is truly at a very strategic location when it comes to shopping in Panama. Locals and tourists alike tirelessly frequent the mall because of the great discounts and affordable prices that the stores have for jeans and shirts, shoes and bags, and for many others.

For those who are accustomed to outlet malling in the United States, Los Pueblos is the best place to shop. Situated near the Tocumen International Airport, Los Pueblos is built with great parking spaces. The Christmas season is peak season in Los Pueblos where most Central and South Americans do their shopping in Panama.

Although the population with less economic resources in Panama does their shopping in Central Avenue, many tourists still like the place because they also offer a wide range of great finds. Divided into two separate sections, one should be able to find everything imaginable between the two: from men and women’s clothing and accessories, fruits and fabrics, electronics and books, you name it, they have it. The second half of the Central Avenue should also be explored. With its cobble-stoned streets and potted trees, one will have a relaxing shopping in Panama experience. They have shops for your clothing needs, fruit stands, groceries, shoes and sandals boutique and definitely a whole lot more.

Shopping in Panama will never cease to amaze and amuse you. They have a fresh fish market where you can go and pick your type of fish and they’ll clean and wrap it up for you in minutes. For your meat needs, they have an open air market that is clean and gives you the opinion that everything is too. Shopping in Panama is one must-do experience whenever you’re there regardless of whether it’s for business of for recreational purposes.

Anonymous Panama Bearer Share Corporations

Panama
Earnest Leibermanso asked:

Panama bearer share corporations are noted the world over for being one of the strongest asset protectiona and financial privacy vehicles available today. One can find many benefits to incorporating their company offshore in Panama whether it be their strict banking secrecy laws or lack of MLAT treaties with other countries. Panama is business friendly.

Panama law allows an S.A. corporation or a bearer share corporation to be owned by the actual person with physical possession the of certificates of stock. Your name will not appear as the owner in any type of public registry if you use nominee directors through a law firm. Even the government of Panama would have a challenging time figuring out who the company owners are. The law allows for the Nominee Directors to be hired and are they are considered employees and are not owners of the bearer share. However, the public registry does record their names. That is why most people hire people for their nominee directors in which they have no affiliation, because it helps further secure their anonymity.

Under a bearer share corporation, you can transfer the stock certificates easily and privately with no recorded proof of the sale that will link you to the transaction. Many people wonder what they can do with their bearer share corporation once it has been effectively set up.

In Panama a corporation can own its own bank accounts, have stock trading accounts, own real estate, have boats, planes, cars, art, jewelry, own other businesses, and many other valuable assets. This can all be done without anyone ever being able to prove who the true owner of all those things really is. In the eyes of the public it is all set up to belong to the bearer share corporation. Client attorney privilege is the first and most powerful layer that can be used in an asset protection strategy. There are many things that are also strategic that a lawyer can do for their client in Panama.

Regardless of where you go in the civilized world a bank will require a beneficial owner for any bank account that is opened. Identity documents are also required to open the account, but in Panama that is all covered their strict bank secrecy laws. These secrecy laws are largely recognized as the best in the world. In as little as two to three business days a Panama bearer share corporations can be incorporated when you are working with the right parties.

The exact particulars of a Panama bearer share corporation are not very complicated. The corporation may issue shares in physical form, but they don not have to be given a fixed value. The only publicly recorded documents are the initial articles of incorporation. Those documents list the officers and directors, which are the nominee directors that were selected and also the registered agent that was chosen. The person who actually owns everything on paper and in the eyes of the law would be the person who actually has the physical shares of the offshore company in their possession.

Many people leave the physical shares blank with no names on them for safety purposes. Ownership can be changed at anytime without any legal obligation to report any changes to the government. There is never any public record of who the actual owner of the corporation is. There are a few other ins and outs of owning a Panama bearer share corporation. The country has annual fees of three hundred dollars. In Panama, there is no minimum amount of paid capital for a bearer share corporation.

It is not required to have board meetings for your bearer share corporation’s share holders. Panama allows these corporations to keep their financial records wherever they wish to keep them in the world. Share certificates can be kept virtually anywhere with no requirement to report to Panamanian authorities about the share’s movement.

The Rise of the Panama Apartment Rental Industry

Panama
Sam Little asked:

With a progression from the late 1990’s into early 2000, the Republic of Panama began to realize it’s potential for tourism and real estate as viable economically sustainable industries. Up until that point, Panama had relied, unswervingly albeit, on trade, banking and agriculture: but with the rush of a new century and timely changes in international investment and travel patterns, Panamanians found themselves sitting on a proverbial goldmine.

The first real thrust was the real estate boom which anchored itself in Panama City and the rural eco-town of Boquete. This boom came to be symbolized by radical changes in skylines, giant increases in building materials and labor, as well as a need to draw people to the isthmus.

Enter the resulting tourism roar, characterized by the nation’s tourism board (IPAT), spending millions of dollars throughout the world to promote Panama as a tropical vacation destination. This campaign saw TV commercials, magazine ads, and an overall buzz about a Panama, which so few people even knew.

The original goal in Panama, as was in similar destinations like Costa Rica and Mexico, was to use tourism to drive real estate sales. But with the investment sector already so well underway in 2007, tourists found themselves arriving in Panama to an oversupply of real estate and an undersupply of hotels, especially in the capital city.

The obvious way to cope with this imbalance was to utilize that which Panama City had plenty of (condominiums) and use them to fill the void (hotel rooms). As a result a number of property management companies arose, offering both short and long term stays to tourists in apartments.

Fully furnished apartments were welcomed warmly by tourists, who truthfully preferred living like a local as opposed to the generic hotel room they’d become accustomed to over the years.  Condo hotspots like Punta Pacifica, Avenida Balboa, El Cangrejo, and Casco Viejo (the old quarter) began to see clients flock to their product, offering maid service, cable TV, wireless internet, and full kitchens: all the luxuries of a hotel but more space and more privacy.

In 2008, a record number of new hotels were announced to fill the supposed void. But many tourists found themselves liking too much the lifestyle that an Panama apartments for rent provided. Further, businessmen and businesswomen in town for weeks to months at a time, decided to stick with the model of rental apartments, thus keeping the industry healthy and alive.

What the future will bring to Panama no one knows. But over the past decade, trends and voids have seemed to even themselves out impressively, allowing the now-booming tourism industry to do what it does best: show off a beautiful country.

The Benefits of Retiring in Panama

Panama
Laurie Cooper asked:

When you think of retirement in America, what comes to mind is usually paradise and unending relaxation, with time under your control. Of course, the cost of retirement also comes to mind, like how much of the retirement pay will go where? The best thing to consider for retirement to be less stressful and more relaxing is to find a place where retirement is beneficial. In most international and tourism magazines, Panama is always quoted as one of the best places to retire in the world.

There are plenty benefits to retiring in Panama. The Panama real estate market has greatly attracted retirees due to Panama’s temperate climate, incredible lush landscape, a myriad of beaches and a welcoming culture.

One of the main benefits of retiring in Panama is Panama’s pensionado program. Under Panama’s Tourist Pensionado Visa, you need to be a resident pensioner to get the benefits of retirees in Panama then you become eligible for the program. To get this eligibility, you simply have to have a guaranteed pension worth 500 dollars every month for singles or 600 dollars for couples. The pension should either come from government agencies such as the Social Security System, Military, Federal, and disability, or from private company that defined the pension benefits. Under the pensionado program, the pensioner is entitled to discounts on public and private amenities that range from accommodation, health care, entertainment, transportation, property acquisition or loan, and technical or professional services.

The benefits of retiring in Panama are that it carries two major languages in the world, Spanish and English. You can easily relate to the locals in these languages and they are hospitable to foreigners. Also, they use the dollar currency for bills and the Balboa coins can easily be converted.

Another inclusion on the benefits of retiring in Panama is the low cost of living. Panama has the lowest cost of living among other countries in Central America. Because prices for goods and services are generally low and cheap, you get more savings especially if you earn foreign income. Aside from the goods and services included in the benefits of retiring in Panama, you also get affordable properties with their favorable tax incentives such that if you are a foreigner who decides to reside in Panama, you can get property that’s free of taxes, and real estate in Panama such as this is not difficult to find.

Aside from pensioner’s benefits of retiring in Panama and low cost of living, Panama offers wonderful places to stay. You can choose to stay on beaches, mountains and the modernized city. Panama has stunning beaches where properties are also developed. Retirees can do surfing, sailing, fishing or simply feeling on the sea breeze when you live in places near the beach. There are also properties that are located near mountains where it offers beautiful landscapes and interesting ecosystems like birds. Panama also offers activities with their mountains like camping and mountain climbing. If you choose the city life, you will see skylines, modern constructions, and high technology in telephone, cable and Internet facilities that are also available in all of Panama. With these various locations plus affordable properties and good tax incentives, you will get the needed relaxation you would require if you were to choose to retire in Panama.

The Transport Sector of Panama Is Growing Fast

Panama
Cassidy Williams asked:

Panama is considered as a land of trade and commerce. Commerce is nothing without transportation. Panama always was and will remain a land with high importance for transportation. Transport sector of Panama is developing every day since the land was selected as a country of business.

The first thing that comes to everyone’s mind about the transport sector of Panama is the ports. The ships and cargo passes through the country like all other vehicles in Panama. Every year around 14,000 ships transit through the Panama Canal. And they carry more than 700,000 passengers and 192 million tons of cargo every year. Panama Canal is one of the most important Transport sectors of Panama.

Panama has the largest marine convoy in the entire world. The ports of Panama have huge traffic and all the modern facilities that a port could possibly offer and for that reason panama is about to become the province’s primary multi-modal logistics core in the near future. At present only the four new container ports provides a total investment of over US$4.5 billion. The ports are combined with the trans-isthmian railroad and they moved more than one million in 2000 and they are planning to make more than four million by 2008.

The main ports which are included in the transport sector of panama are Manzanillo International Terminal (Stevedoring Services of America), Colon Container Terminal (Evergreen International Corporation), Colon Port Terminal (Hutchinson Port Holdings) and Colon 2000 (Cruise Ship Terminal) on the Atlantic Coast. On the Pacific side Panama has Panama Port Terminal S.A (Hutchinson Port Holdings) and Rodman (Alireza - Mobil) which is used for fuel loading and unloading.

Kansas City Railroad and Mi-Jack Railroad control the railroad transport sector of panama. The railroad is 47 miles in distance which runs parallel to the Panama Canal. They were the first transcontinental railroad for the last 143 years. Railroad is an important transport sector of Panama because it provides services both to the cargo and the passengers. Coping with the time the railroad sector is modernizing and improving their transportation system. This transportation system will massively help the economics and commerce sector along with the transportation of the people.

The roads and highways can define the country one way. Not just the look beside the highways, network and connection among them are quite stunning in Panama. Transport sector of Panama holds approximately 11,300 kilometers of highway set-up.

Airports are like bus stoppages in transport sector of Panama. The country has 27 public and 41 private airports. Among the public airports five of them are fully functional. This means that they have all the facility of immigration and custom service.

The primary airport is the Tocumen which is 15 minutes away from the Panama City. Th Southern Corridor, which is the modern highway, provides the easy way to the main airport of the city. Marcos A. Gelabert is second to the Tocumen airport. It is also located in the capital city. It provides services to national and international flights.

Without doubt, the transport sector of Panama is quite rich. For a country of trade and business, transportation has the most valuable utility of location. In other words, the transport sector of Panama does half the jobs for the country.
